I obtained my BSc and PhD from the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Birmingham before embarking on postdoctoral research at the University of Birmingham (Cancer Sciences) and then at the University of Sheffield (Infection, Immunity and Cardiovascular Disease). My research interests are rooted in host-pathogen interactions and innate immunity, and I have specialised in two areas of virus-epithelial interactions: understanding how Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causes cancer, and how the common cold and influenza A induce a severe inflammatory response in individuals with underlying airways disease, such as asthma or COPD. I was appointed as Lecturer in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Derby in June 2017.
