Dr Simon Bignell is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He has a PhD from Essex University that explored ‘Children’s Language Skills and ADHD’ and a degree in Psychology from Sussex University. He has led several innovative projects and conducted pedagogical and developmental research looking at the language skills of children with conditions such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Simon specialises in Developmental Psychology and Cyberpsychology and has been nominated for the UK’s Times Higher Education ‘Most Innovative Teacher of the Year’ Award and is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation in learning. He regularly appears on British and international media such as the BBC, ITV and CNN. He has won several research grants and published in academic books, encyclopaedias, and journals such as the British Journal of Developmental Psychology and the British Journal of Educational Psychology. He has also delivered keynote lectures at British and international conferences. He regularly reviews research grants and academic journal submissions and was Conference Editor for the British Psychological Society’s monthly magazine The Psychologist. He has taught in several Universities and worked with people across the autistic spectrum as well as training future GPs about children’s developmental conditions. Dr Bignell has run the popular ‘Autism, Asperger’s & ADHD’ module since 2006. He also leads Derby’s final-year specialist module ‘Psychology in Education’. His ‘Massive Open Online Course’ (MOOC) ‘Understanding Autism, Asperger’s & ADHD’ attracted more than 12,000 learners.
